DAN'S PAST EXPERIENCE
During his tenure at the Town of East Gwilllimbury, Dan was responsible for advancing various sustainability initiatives which helped establish the Town as an environmental leader and innovator. Notable projects include green building policy for development (Energy Star & LEED (NC)), the first municipal Community Energy Plan in the GTA and the development of the Thinking Green Development Standards.
In 2012 and 2013, Dan was seconded on a part-time basis to the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSCRA) at the request of Authority management while continuing with his duties at East Gwillimbury. The assignment was to develop municipal and development industry partners to advance the adoption of Low Impact Development (LID) techniques to handle urban run-off under the banner of the “Rainscaping Program”.
In 2010, Dan was seconded to Waterfront Toronto as the Interim Director of Sustainability working with the senior management team reporting directly to the President and CEO and the senior management team to ensure the implementation of the Waterfront Toronto Sustainability Framework for capital projects and re-redevelopment precincts in the organization’s mandate. During his time at Waterfront Toronto (WT), Dan worked with Infrastructure Ontario and the City of Toronto to facilitate the development approvals for the Pan Am Athletes Village in the West Don Lands. Additional accomplishments with Waterfront Toronto as Director of Sustainability also include the following:
-
Reviewed and updated Waterfront Toronto’s Minimum Green Building Requirements (MGBR) which are applied to all private development partner projects
-
Worked with the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) to advance the “gold” certification for the West Donlands and East Bayfront redevelopment precincts under the pilot program for LEED for Neighborhood Development (LEED-ND)
